Where are we located?

Ballimore Farm Estate lies about 2 hours North of Glasgow in the hills of Argyll. 1.5 miles North of the village of Kilchrenan and 6 miles South of the community of Taynuilt, nestled in the hills along the B845, with Ben Cruachan as its spectacular backdrop.

Ballimore Estate has a working Farm and you will often meet the Highland cows and sheep on your drive in to the Estate House.
The properties, including the barn, are based in the inner grounds where amongst the terraced lawns and lines of 400 year old trees you will find the ruin of the Barons 16th century fortified home . A number of beautiful walks let you explore the immediate vicinity by foot or bike with the walk called “The Kilchrenan Circle” running through the estate.

Kilchrenan, the closest village ( 1 .5 miles) has a very pleasant local inn, providing excellent food in a lovely and welcoming atmosphere.

Taynuilt, a larger village some 6 miles away, sits on the shores of the large sea Loch of Loch Etive. It is the ideal place to stock up on essentials. It’s main street has a post office, butcher, grocery shop, hairdresser, a lovely coffee shop, the newly refurbished Taynuilt Inn also offering food, including a take away menu.
Taynuilt can be reached by public transport and offers connections to Oban and Glasgow by bus or train.

Oban, some 12 miles West of Taynuilt is known as the ‘gateway to the isles’ and offers a variety of facilities and amenities. Lots of little cafes, galleries and shops. There is much to enjoy in this picturesque seaside town, the local tourist office stocks a large catalogue of bus and boat trips and things to do in the area.

A number of grocery shops, such as Aldi, Lidl, M&S and Tesco offer everything one might need are located in Oban and offer great opportunities to stock up on supplies (with Tesco even delivering directly to the Farm).

 

Map & Directions to Ballimore

By Car

There are two routes leading up from Glasgow, where you take the M8 towards Erskine Bridge. Take the exit at junction 30 and follow the A898 signposted ‘Loch Lomond’.

In Tarbet your can either go via Loch Lomond or drive via the ‘Rest and be Thankful’ and Inveraray:

Inveraray Route: Continue straight ahead onto the A83 towards Arrochar and through the beautiful ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ towards Inveraray. Here take a right under the white archway and follow the A819 which, just after the beautiful and popular views of Kilchurn Castle meets the A85. Take a left turn onto the A85 and follow this road through Lochawe towards Taynuilt…

Along the shores of Loch Lomond: Take a right turn at the Hotel in Tarbet and continue on the A82 further along the banks of Loch Lomond for roughly 40miles. Once you the Crianlarich bypass, keep left and further continue on the A82 towards Tyndrum. After ‘The Real Food Cafe’ and the ‘Green Welly’ in Tyndrum take a left onto the A85 towards Oban (for approx. 23 miles). You will drive along the banks of Loch Awe and through Inverawe towards Taynuilt...
…Just after the 30mile/hour signs for Taynuilt take a sharp left turn onto the B845 towards Kilchrenan.
We advise our guests to take care on the B845, as this is a single track road through Glen Nant, which is busy with local wildlife.

Carry on for 6 miles and follow this road, with lots of passing places. After a sharp s-bend you will pass a Farm, followed by a light-pink Cottage on your left. Loch Tromlee will appear below the fields on the left-hand side. Tromlee Woodlands is part of the Estate. You will pass two white houses on your right and a tractor store on the left.
The entrance to our private road is a further 100 meters down the road on your left, signposted with a large sign “Ballimore Farm Estate”
The private road is a track leading 1.5 miles from the entrance to the Main House, Cottage and Lodge.
(Please bear in mind that the track is unsuitable for sports cars.)
